Car 02 was a 2010 Volvo s40 sedan, which entered service in the spring of 2015 and was retired in August 2019. During its 4+ years, it traveled nearly 200,000 miles. As a European luxury sedan, it was certainly comfortable to drive. This car was powered by a 2.4L inline 5-cylinder engine, producing 168 hp. As a Volvo, it was mechanically sound. But driver training took a heavy toll on it. The oil pan and transmission lines were damaged or destroyed several times in run off the road incidents, and every year I’d lose 8-10 low-profile tires and an alloy wheel or two to pothole and curb hits. This recurring damage is what led me to switch to using police cars.
This car also participated in several SCCA road rallies. Upon retirement it was salvaged and scrapped with a final mileage of 383,000 on the odometer.
